flower heads

This is the follower up post to my playing dress up post. These headpieces are more fun, I used my mums flowers from around the house to stuff the headpieces. The flowers add a nice Caribbean appeal to the headpieces as well so I'm happy with that. Again these are inspired my Junya Watanabe's headpieces. I wonder if I can make these a little bigger but I must consider how heavy these will be on my models heads on the catwalk. They're also quite fragile so I have to figure out how I want to attach them to the models heads. These headpieces are more colourful, fun and vibrant which is what my project is all about so hopefully the end product for the catwalk show will be just as great.

playing dress up

As part of my final major project I'm doing some elaborate headpieces. These headpieces were of course inspired by Junya Watanbe's very genius and creative headscarves. I'm still working on my headscarves so they're not at large and fabulous as Junya's but I see a lot of potential in these headscarves and I'm super excited to see them on the catwalk. They're so traditional, vibrant and have a great tribal element to them. These are the first set of the headscarves I worked on today. I'm extremely happy with them and the profile shots have an amazing look!

70s prints with heat transfer

This spring/summer there are hints of the 70s in fashion trends. I only noticed my heat transfer prints I'm currently working on really links to the 70s trends in fashion this season, when my tutor told me.
So I will use this as my inspiration and make my prints even better.
Here are some of the heat transfer prints I've done. I really like the bright contrasting colours and the chiffon gives the prints a nice soft delicate feel.

being refined

As I'm currently working on my final major project everything has to be refined and sophisticated, for numerous reasons:-
# My final piece will be in a catwalk show
# This project is marked at first year degree level
# And I want a distinction for this project :)
At the moment the thought of getting a distinction is put aside and I'm just focused on enjoying the project and really showing my potential. And I feel this is really working my for me. My samples and fabric selection is sophisticated, my illustrations are more personal and stronger and my confidence in my work is increasing. So I'm Happy
Here is a quick peek at my sketchbook, here I'm playing with earthy greens for a garment design. I really love the illustration on this page, the look I went for here was a sea witch that lives in an undersea cave. A bit like an high fashion version of Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

So these illustrations sums up the overall theme I'm working with for my final major project. Firstly inspired by Tao Kurihara and now morphed into a Jamaican theatrical castaway theme, I hope to execute very well on the catwalk show.

Final Major Project: So Far

From the Tao Kurihara Autumn/Winter 2010/11 collection I've started to do some samples on the tailor dummy to play around with the shapes I want to create and see how well the fabrics I've chosen work when I've wrapped and tied them on the mannequin.

I really like the shapes the organza make when they've been wrapped and tied on the tailors dummy. Also the colour of the organza work really nicely when they've been layered.

The heavier fabrics also work really well. So for future design ideas I might try combining the heavier fabrics with the organza. The possibilities are endless.
